PMAP Annual Conference on TV 5

Have you seen the PMAP TV commercial over TV 5?

Being one the Media Presentors of the 47th PMAP Annual Conference happening in Cebu City this October,  TV 5 produced this 2-minute TV ad as part of its commitment to help the organization inform the public about the upcoming event which is considered as the biggest gathering of HR practitioners and people managers in the country.

Ramon Magsaysay Awardees to Keynote 47th PMAP Conference

The renowned physicist couple who had been named among the 2010 winners of the Ramon Magsaysay Awards, Asia's equivalent of the Nobel Prize, will be the keynote speakers at the 47th Annual Conference of the People Management Association of the Philippines slated October 13-15, 2010 at the Cebu International Convention Center, Mandaue City, Cebu.

Drs. Christopher C. Bernido and Ma. Victoria Carpio Bernido, who also won the prestigious Gawad Haydee Yorac last year, are currently the president and principal, respectively, of the Research Center for Theoretical Physics, at Jagna Bohol.

The extraordinary couple is expected to provide a thoughtful backdrop to the PMAP Conference by reflecting on the theme “A New Horizon” and share the lessons and the challenges they faced in charting personal new horizons for themselves, for the future of Physics in the country, and for students in their home province in Bohol. By drawing on the depth of experiences that only a lifetime of meaningful living can bring, conference participants will learn from the Bernidos the fears, hopes, challenges and opportunities of facing metaphorical new horizons.

French philosopher and historian Ernest Renan once said, “As soon as sacrifice becomes duty and necessity to mankind, I see no limit to the horizon which opens before him.” The Bernidos are a living proof of how unselfish efforts and personal sacrifices can lead to a new horizon not only for themselves but also for their community.

Almost twenty years ago, they were the Director and Assistant professor of the National Institute of Physics of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, one of the most prestigious science institutions in the country, when they decided to move back to their hometown Jagna in Bohol.

The Bernidos saw the need to produce good grade school and high school graduates in order to produce good college graduates based from years of experience in teaching. This is the main reason why they opted to quit their promising careers in UP to teach physics, mathematics and other tough subjects to high school students in their province, even as they continued to mentor masteral and doctoral Physics students from different universities in the Philippines.

The Bernidos showed purposeful commitment to both science and nation, ensuring innovative, low-cost and effective basic education even under Philippine conditions of great scarcity and daunting poverty, according to the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation who recognized the couple along with four other awardees from China, Bangladesh and Japan last August 31 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

A New Horizon at the 47th PMAP Annual Conference

In 2009, Ondoy, Pepeng and ‘the Great Recession’ darkened the outlooks of many Filipinos.  But an old saying must be remembered:  “It is always darkest before dawn.”

The theme for the 47th Annual Conference of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP), “A New Horizon”, symbolizes every Filipino’s collective hope for this year to be a turning point.  Just as dawn lights up the horizon to signal the beginning of a new day, 2010 marks a bright new beginning in PMAP’s story; a blank canvass beckoning us to paint a new landscape for Philippine HR.

This year’s Conference, to be held at the Cebu International Convention Center from October 13 to 15, will be a living conference and not just a ‘live-in’ conference.  It has been designed to give delegates several opportunities to become co-creators of the conference by contributing their perspectives, sharing their ideas and talents, developing actionable solutions, and making a real difference. PMAP envision delegates becoming active participants instead of passive observers, together creating a new day for PMAP.

Become part of the change.  This year, PMAP will introduce three new elements to make our Annual Conference more inclusive and engaging than ever.  By initiating advocacy meetings, consultative dialogues and roundtable debates, the association will tap the tacit expertise and energy of our members in order to create concrete solutions and positions on issues.  By fostering a culture of true Bayanihan, everyone can all become part of the change we want to see.

There are specialized learning recognizing that delegates have different interests and needs, this Conference is designed to support multiple learning tracks and various platforms of engagement.  There will be interactive workshops catering to specific development areas, special learning sessions on trailblazing topics, and plenary sessions that emphasize transformation in action.  Delegates will also be given new tools such as application planners and session summaries to facilitate learning transfer.

By leveraging on the latest trends in events management, and combining timeless practices with new technologies, delegates can look forward to exciting innovations to enrich their experience at the conference.  High tech tools such as live blogs and multimedia uploads and high touch elements such as networking sessions and The Friendship Program will help increase interactivity and connectivity before, during and after the conference.

To manifest PMAP’s mission, the authority in people management will start an Advocacies in Action program, which aims to use the Conference’s resources to lend a helping hand to local communities and to support PMAP advocacies.  For 2010, the PMAP community will adopt a school from Cebu and seek book donations from delegates.  We will also use initiatives like the Morning Mentoring Sessions to raise funds for relevant causes and manifest our mission.

A new day provides an opportunity to make new choices.  With an abundance of learning sessions, social events, games and activities, there is sure to be something fun and meaningful for every One.  You are in the driver’s seat of an amazing experience that will refresh, rejuvenate and renew you.  Wake up and seize the day!

For registration and other inquiries, you may contact PMAP at tel. no. 726-1532 or email pmap@pmap.org.ph.
